As of this writing there are five different drives: DDS-1, DDS-2, DDS-3, DDS-4 (DAT 40), and DDS-5 (DAT72).
Each drive uses different media.
The original drive was called "DDS", and is alternately referred to as "DDS" and "DDS-1".
DDS-1 drives came in two types, one could use extra length 90 M tapes.
The table below lists the drives, tapes, and capacity.
